Monaco J. Armijo is a licensed private investigator and investigative strategist with over 18 years of experience leading complex, high-liability investigations across government, law enforcement oversight, and the private sector.

His career includes service as an Internal Affairs Investigator with the Albuquerque Police Department during federal DOJ oversight, where he handled high-profile use-of-force and misconduct investigations under intense scrutiny. He later served in Special Investigations Unit (SIU) roles supporting insurance carriers and litigation teams in fraud and misrepresentation matters.

Beyond field investigations, Monaco has operated at the executive level of investigative leadership. As a former State Investigations Manager within the New Mexico Public Education Department’s Office of General Counsel, he rebuilt and led investigative programs aligned directly with legal review standards, conducting investigations in close coordination with agency attorneys and consulting on findings and potential disciplinary action. In that role, he oversaw sensitive cases involving alleged sexual misconduct with minor students and other high-risk administrative matters, many of which carried significant public and media interest and required careful handling under heightened scrutiny. He also helped architect and develop investigative and compliance structures for Bernalillo County’s HR investigations unit and the New Mexico Office of Guardianship, addressing abuse, neglect, and exploitation involving vulnerable populations. 

Throughout his career, Monaco has built investigative units from the ground up - designing case workflows, reporting standards, oversight protocols, and compliance frameworks that remain in use today. His work is recognized for objectivity, discretion, and documentation prepared with the expectation of judicial scrutiny.
